Willard’s 8th grade football team recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown, and that was all the scoring they needed to beat Republic 6-0. The winning touchdown came after a Willard defender stripped the ball away from a Republic receiver, leading to the defensive score.
In the B game, Republic won easily, 26-14. Republic held Willard scoreless until the final seconds of the 3rd quarter. Willard scored again with less than a minute to go in the game — then tried an onside kick. Republic recovered, then promptly scored with five seconds left on the clock to account for the final score.
