The Republic Tigers got three touchdowns from Ryan Sifferman in dominating Cleveland Naval Junior ROTC, 45-0. The Tigers racked up 308 yards of total offense , including 221 yards on the ground, as they earned their first victory of the year.
The Tigers got on the board first with a 15-yard touchdown run by Sifferman. That capped a 4-play, 35-yard drive. After a Kirk Metzger interception, they scored quickly again on a 25-yard pass from Blaze Carano to Metzger. On their next drive, the Tigers went 52 yards in 7 plays and scored again on a one-yard quarterback keeper by Carano. They led 21-0 as the first quarter ended.
Republic’s next scoring drive was set up by a 42-yard interception return by Chase Mills. The Tigers punched it in again from 41 yards out, scoring on a 11-yard run by Jake Miller, making the score 28-0.
Their fifth touchdown came on a 12-yard run by Sifferman — his second touchdown of the night. He scored again for the third time a few minutes later, making the halftime score 42-0.
Blake Baumberger closed out the scoring in the second half with a 20-yard field goal, giving the Tigers a 45-0 lead.
Sifferman led the Tigers in rushing with 10 carries and 98 yards, to go along with his three touchdowns. Kirk Metzger carried the ball 9 times for 65 yards, and also caught a touchdown pass and added an interception. Quarterback Blaze Carano was 5-of-9 passing the ball, for 97 yards, and also rushed for one touchdown.
The Tigers improve to 1-2, and they’ll be at home again next week against Heritage High School of Rogers, Ark.
