Lady Tigers Finish Strong After Rough Weekend

The Lady Tigers softball team finished strong after a rough weekend tournament in Springfield. Republic won two games and lost three.

Kickapoo 8 Republic 7

The Lady Tigers opened with an 8-7 loss to Kickapoo. The Lady Chiefs overcame a 7-2 deficit by scoring six runs in the last two innings to knock off Republic. Megan Thorne homered and drove in four runs for Republic.Julia Higgins had two hits and scored two runs.

Fatima 4 Republic 2

Fatima took advantage of two unearned runs to beat Republic 4-2 Friday afternoon. Avery Romans pitched a complete game, and allowed just two earned runs, but was stuck with the loss. Romans also had two of Republic’s eight hits and drove in a run. Riley Laub drove in a run as well.

Republic 13 Rogersville

The Lady Tigers’ offense broke out in a 13-10 win over Rogersville. Livi Collier homered twice and Kaitlyn Ragsdale and Julia Higgins also homered. Higgins and Collier had three hits apiece, and Ragsdale stole three bases. Collier drove in six runs. A.J. Fenske and Megan Thorne each had two hits, and Addi Cantrell, Megan Weis, and Avery Romans each had a single base hit.

Liberty 12 Republic 2

Liberty scored eight runs in the third inning to pull away from Republic in a 12-2 win. The Lady Tigers managed just four base hits and committed seven errors. Republic starting pitcher Mara Lakey allowed just three earned runs in the loss. Julia Higgins homered again for the Lady Tigers.

Republic 14 Monett 8

The Lady Tigers finished their weekend on a winning note with a 14-8 win over Monett. Republic scored nine runs in the seventh inning, breaking a 5-5 tie. Julia Higgins had three hits and drove in five runs for Republic. A.J. Fenske hit a grand slam in the middle of the game-winning rally. Riley Laub, Addi Cantrell, Megan Weis, and Kaitlyn Ragsdale had two hits each.

Republic finished the weekend with 25 team home runs. The school record for home runs in a season, set in 2014, is 26.
