Vote! Tiger Spirit Award

Tiger-Spirit-Award---SmallRepublic Tiger Sports just wouldn’t be the same without the supporting students who add spirit to the games. So this year, for the first time, I’m giving away a Tiger Spirit Award to one of the supporting cast members from the cheer squad, the Tigerettes, or the band.

In consultation with people in the know, I’ve narrowed the list to five nominees, with short summaries written by their coaches/advisors:

Jacob Batey has been a positive role model in the Band program since 6th grade.  Jacob was a drum major for the Tiger Pride Marching Band during the 2014 season.  He has an outgoing and positive personality and is willing to help others understand ideas and concepts.  He is well liked by many students as well as staff.  Jacob is intending to continue his studies in music at MSU next year where he will study composition and film scores.

Jordan Belcher has been a four year member of the Poms Team.  Jordan was a captain her senior year.  Jordan will be attending Missouri State University in the fall and will be a member of the Sugar Bears dance team.

Sam Malone was co-captain of the varsity cheer squad. Even during a loss, Sam would be the first to congratulate the other team or squad, always ensuring that each player or cheerleader felt that they had done their best and could be proud of their performance.

Eli Motley was co-captain of the varsity cheer squad and a foundation for the student section. Cheerleaders, students, fans and other schools would always look forward to the time-outs where the cheerleaders would tumble, chanting Eli’s name as he flipped his way from one end of the court to the other, with the opposing teams’ student section usually being the loudest to clap.

Abby Vaughan has been a four year member of the Poms Team.  Abby was a captain her senior year.  Abby will be attending Missouri State University in the fall.
